Good Friday update

It’s a nice long weekend in the UK, and the sun is shining, so I’ll make this brief. Last week’s goals:

  1. Work on SWMF on 4 days, and finish another two scenes (I have several that are half-done coming up). Done.
  2. Get back to the YA novel on the laptop: 3 days. Done on one day, then I realised I needed to reread it again, this time taking notes so I actually know what to do on the laptop!
  3. Work on submissions for at least 2 x 30 minutes. Done.
  4. Find something to enter/a place to submit something. Not done. Need to prioritise this again.

Good things:

  1. I’ve had a bit more time for things other than work this past week, which has been wonderful. My head feels so much clearer.
  2. I got some lovely writing news a few days ago, which I can’t talk about just yet. *sits on hands*

Goals for this coming week:

  1. Work on SWMF on 6/7 days.
  2. Finish another two scenes.
  3. Spend 20 minutes a day rereading the YA novel and taking notes.
  4. Find something to enter/a place to submit something.

Happy long weekend! May you spend it writing, relaxing, exploring or in whichever way works best for you.

Super-quick Thursday update

…because I’m going away tomorrow for a long weekend.

Last week’s goals:

  1. Work on SWMF on 6/7 days. Done
  2. Finish another two scenes in SWMF. I’ve done a scene and a half
  3. Work on submissions for at least 2 x 30 minutes. Only done 1 x 30 minutes
  4. Continue reading through the YA novel for 20 minutes a day on 6/7 days. Finished my read-through

As I mentioned, I’m away for the next few days, so I’m going to relax my goals slightly.

  1. Work on SWMF on 4 days, and finish another two scenes (I have several that are half-done coming up).
  2. Get back to the YA novel on the laptop: 3 days.
  3. Work on submissions for at least 2 x 30 minutes.
  4. Find something to enter/a place to submit something.

Friday update

Another quick check-in. Last week’s goals:

  1. Work on SWMF on 6/7 days. (Done on 5/7 days. I let my workload get on top of me yesterday.)
  2. Decide on another competition to enter or submission process, and work on it for at least 2 x 30 minutes. (Only managed 1 x 30 minutes.)
  3. Spend 20 minutes a day reading through the YA novel on 6/7 days. (Done on 5/7 days.)

Fairly pleased with that, although I’m still a little frustrated at how “light” it all feels. Not helped by pulling out an old short story that I used to rather like, and deciding it was pretentious and lightweight. :-/ Still, the point of going over old writing is to make it better.

OTOH I have been reading through the YA novel and it’s not as bad as I thought. And I’m full of ideas for what I want to do with the next draft.

Goals for next week:

  1. Work on SWMF on 6/7 days.
  2. Finish another two scenes in SWMF.
  3. Work on submissions for at least 2 x 30 minutes.
  4. Continue reading through the YA novel for 20 minutes a day on 6/7 days.

Friday update

Yay for March, and yay for better health! And back to the Friday check-ins. The last time I posted, my goals were:

  1. Work on SWMF every day, even if just for ten minutes. 5/7 days done.
  2. Decide on another competition to enter or submission process, and work on it for at least 2 x 30 minutes. Done (actually I’ve worked on this every day).
  3. Finish reading through the YA novel. Not done, but at least I’ve started on it…
  4. Send scene from the YA novel to a friend for feedback on whether I should rewrite it in a different tense. Done.

I’ve tentatively started adding new words to SWMF, instead of just picking at the outline, which is good. As for the rest, I was really quite ill there for a good ten days, so didn’t mind slacking off a little with the writing (especially as I also realised just how stressed out I was with life). But now it’s time to make myself accountable again.

Goals for this coming week:

  1. Work on SWMF on 6/7 days.
  2. Decide on another competition to enter or submission process, and work on it for at least 2 x 30 minutes.
  3. Spend 20 minutes a day reading through the YA novel on 6/7 days.

Anyone want to chime in with their own goals?
